As you can see in the photo above these recycled garden containers serve two purposes, the bottom as the container and the top as a cover, to create a mini greenhouse in cooler weather or for colder nights.
In this photo the containers have also been raised off the ground, so they don't get cold from the ground. Plants don't respond to cold roots.
Another way to keep them warm at nights is to sit them in gravel that warms up through the day and releases heat at night. Also a warm brick wall in a protected corner will do the same thing.
